Your Personal Clinical Psychologist in Seattle, WA - Meet Shon Powell

Welcome. I’m Dr. Shon Powell, PsyD, a licensed psychologist serving adults and teens throughout Washington State. My approach is grounded in helping clients move from feelings of overwhelm toward meaningful, sustainable change. Before entering graduate school to become a psychologist, I served as a Naval officer and managed teams in corporate environments. This background has given me unique insight into high-stakes decision-making, organizational dynamics, and workplace challenges. I have particular experience supporting veterans, first responders, and professionals who navigate complex systems and leadership roles.

My practice is integrative, relational, and evidence-informed. Together, we will combine practical tools for managing anxiety, improving mood, enhancing sleep, and increasing focus with a deeper exploration of recurring patterns in relationships and work. I maintain a strong multicultural emphasis throughout my work, recognizing how race, culture, identity, gender, and systemic forces shape each person’s experience. Your care will be tailored to your unique background and needs, not a one-size-fits-all template. For teens, I offer a supportive space to address anxiety, depression, identity development, and school pressures, while ensuring the teen’s voice is respected.

Therapy is a collaborative process—much like shaping clay—intentional, skillful, and meant to create lasting change. When you’re ready, we will develop a clear, actionable plan tailored to your goals and your schedule.

Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)

Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) vary widely, with benefits determined by each employer. We partner with select EAPs where pre-authorization is required before your first session.

  • What to expect: Most EAPs authorize a limited number of sessions (typically around six) aimed at addressing immediate concerns, teaching coping strategies, and planning next steps.
  • Authorization: Contact your EAP (or Human Resources department) to request counseling with Dr. Shon Powell and obtain both an authorization number and the approved number of sessions. Please provide this information to our office before scheduling.
  • Costs: Session fees are typically covered based on your EAP’s guidelines. Copays are rare but may apply depending on your plan.
  • Telehealth: Many EAPs offer telehealth options. Confirm availability when obtaining your authorization.
  • Privacy: Your clinical information remains confidential. If required by your EAP, we may confirm attendance or service dates, but no clinical details are shared with your employer.
  • After EAP sessions: If you wish to continue care after your EAP sessions, we can transition you to insurance or private-pay options.
